SRINAGAR: Reports said a gun fight broke out in a Sopore village slightly ahead of the Sehri. The encounter has led to the killing of two militants.

A mixed column of troops from 21-RR and police had jointly cordoned the Nathipora belt slightly past midnight. As cordon was being enforced, the militant and the army exchanged fire and established a contact. Within a few minutes the encounter was over.

Police said the two militants were holed up in a house. It was not immediately known if the house survived the encounter. Identity of the slain militants is still not established though police believes they belong to Lashkar fold.

Though the operation is over, the Army is still combing the village. Some weapons have been recovered from the spot of the clash.

The encounter in the belt was reported within 24 hours after four cops were injured in a grenade explosion. Police said while probing the grenade attack, they identified two persons of whom one was arrested. It was this arrested man who led the cops to the destination where the midnight encounter took place.
