The armies of India and Pakistan exchanged heavy fire on Thursday along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, reports quoted defence officials.

“Pakistan Army initiated indiscriminate firing and shelling on our positions on the LoC in Rajouri district’s Naushera sector and Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch,” Defence Ministry spokesman said.

They are using small arms, automatics and mortars, he said. “Our forces are effectively retaliating,” Mehta added.

Meanwhile Pakistan media reports said that three civilians were injured as Indian troops resorted to “unprovoked firing” along the Line of Control on Thursday morning.

The military’s media wing, Inter Services Public Relations, said Indian troops fired at Battal, Jandrot and Hotspring sectors. ISPR further said Pakistani troops effectively responded to Indian firing.
