SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police attached properties worth over Rs 1.5 crore belonging to a drug peddler under Section 68 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
“Two double-storied residential houses of Reyaz Ahmad Ganie, son of Mohd Jabbar Ganie, a resident of Nassu Badragund, Qazigund, have been attached. The properties, measuring 1,271 sq. ft and 764 sq. ft, are located on land bearing Khasra No. 427 min at Nassu Badragund and have been seized under Section 68 of the NDPS Act in connection with FIR No. 103 of 2024,” a police spokesperson in a statement said.
The statement reads, “Reyaz Ahmad Ganie, described as a habitual drug peddler, was involved in selling drugs among the youth. Multiple cases, including FIR No. 310/2015 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act and FIR No. 103/2024 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act, are registered against him at Police Station Qazigund. He is currently lodged under the PIT NDPS Act at Central Jail Kot Balwal, Jammu. His brother, Bilal Ahmad Ganie, also faces charges under FIR No. 64/2023 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act at Police Station Qazigund, where a substantial quantity of narcotics was recovered.”
Authorities confirmed that both properties were acquired using proceeds from illegal narcotics trade. “As per Sections 68E and 68F of the NDPS Act, the attached properties cannot be transferred, sold, or dealt with without prior approval from the competent authority.”
