Two teachers were killed and eight others injured when a picnic vehicle of District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) met with an accident in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Saturday evening.

A police official told Srinagar-based news agency GNS that the staff members of DIET Pampore had gone on a picnic to Doodhpathri in Budgam district. He said that they were travelling in an LP vehicle bearing registration number JK01N 5926.

The official said that the staffers of DIET were returning back from Doodhpathri and when they reached Tangnaar in Budgam, the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a 20 feet deep gorge.

The police official said that as a result, two persons identified as Aliya Muzzafar, wife of Muzafar Ahmad, resident of Wanbal Rawalpora and Bashir Ahmad Mir, son of Khazir Muhammadm resident of Sathpakran Khrew died. Besides, eight persons’ sustained injuries and they were immediately rushed to hospital.

The official said that the four out of eight injured persons were referred to SKIMS Soura for specialized treatment.

Meanwhile, police has registered a case and started further investigations in this regard.
