SRINAGAR: Two Egyptians performing Umrah were killed and 25 others injured when a bus carrying pilgrims crashed near the Saudi city of Al-Jumum while travelling from Medina to Mecca, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
The bus was carrying 47 Egyptian pilgrims when the crash occurred on Saturday evening, the ministry said in a statement.
Of the 25 injured, seven were admitted to intensive care, while the others sustained light to moderate injuries, according to the ministry.
The remaining pilgrims received medical treatment and were discharged from hospitals before being accommodated at their designated hotels in Mecca.
Saudi authorities had not immediately commented on the incident.
Umrah is a voluntary minor Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, during which pilgrims visit the Kaaba and perform prescribed religious rituals of devotion and purification.
