KL Report

Jammu

In view of improved weather conditions and condition of road, it has been decided that all types of Passenger Vehicles and oil tankers shall be allowed to ply, both ways, on Srinagar Jammu Highway every day from March 18, till further orders.

A government statement said that the trucks and other heavy load carriers shall continue to observe one way traffic as the restoration work of the highway is not yet completed at few stretches. Therefore, on March 18, 2013, trucks and other heavy goods vehicles shall ply from Jammu towards Srinagar in a regulated manner. The next day (March19) the traffic will ply from Srinagar to Jammu. However, all the heavy vehicles when plying from Srinagar to Jammu are required to cross TCP Lower Munda (Qazigund by 1400 hours (for onwards journey towards Jammu) positively. Similarly, when plying from Jammu to Srinagar these vehicles will cross TCP Udhampur by 1400 hours (for onward journey towards Kashmir valley) positively, beyond which no heavy vehicles shall be allowed to proceed for onward journey towards Kashmir (during up convoy days) and for onward journey towards Jammu (during down convoy days).
The statement added that the trailers and multi-axle vehicles shall also be subjected to the above one way traffic plan.

However, all such type of vehicles shall be allowed to ply during night hours only and in no case be allowed to ply during day time to avoid traffic jamming on highway. Moreover, no such vehicle shall be allowed to cross TCP Lower Munda (Qazigund) before 2200 hours, during down-convoy (viz. Srinagar to Jammu) days. Similarly, during up-convoy days (viz. Jammu to Sringagar) no such vehicle will be allowed to cross TCP Udhampur before 2200 hours.

Similarly, heavy vehicular movement of Army, BSF, CRPF and other Forces shall continue to observe one way traffic plan till further orders.
