Octogenarian Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani Sunday called for a complete shutdown on Monday against the Udhampur incident.

Geelani, who spoke to KNS immediately after returning from New Delhi condemned the Udhampur incident and appealed people to observe complete shutdown against the incident.

Pertinently, three persons, including a policeman, received burn injuries when a Kashmir-bound truck was attacked with a petrol bomb and set ablaze in Udhampur on Friday night following which six persons have been arrested.

Terming, Udhampur incident as sheer “hooliganism”, Geelani said that some communal forces were trying to create regional divide which he said must be strongly protested.

“These communal forces have two motives behind such incident, one is that they want to create economic blockade for the Kashmir people and second is that they want to show the freedom- struggle of Kashmiris is as a communal issue,” he said.

He said that some miscreants who had already threatened of economic blockade against Kashmir were taking advantage of helplessness of Kashmiri people as Highway was only sources of connectivity for this region.

Geelani said that the situation would take an ugly turn if any of the injured dies.

However, he also appealed people to foil the attempts of the communal forces trying to divide people of the state on religious lines.

Meanwhile, Kashmir traders KTMF have also called for Kashmir Bandh on Monday to protest against the burning of Kashmir- bound truck in Udhampur.
