SRINAGAR: The United Nations human rights office on Saturday called on India to immediately and unconditionally release people it described as “arbitrarily detained” during protests against alleged misconduct by electoral authorities.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said it was concerned by reports of mass detentions involving demonstrators, protest leaders, members of civil society organisations, lawyers and journalists before and during large-scale demonstrations in Delhi.
“All those arbitrarily detained must be immediately and unconditionally released,” the office said in a statement.
