Senior National Conference (NC) leader and Minister for Higher Education Mohammad Akbar Lone Saturday said that biggest challenge before the government was to provide employment to thousands of youth in the state.

Addressing an impressive election rally in Sonawari, he said, “In the last six years, government’s main focus remained on providing employment. Though thousands of youth were provided employment, more needs to be done on the issue as government sector is the only viable job option in Jammu and Kashmir.”

He said main plank of the present government has been to combat burgeoning unemployment by exploring new career shaping avenues within and outside Jammu and Kashmir. In this regard he referred to the path breaking initiatives of Udaan and Himayat programmes launched in conjunction with leading public and private sector companies and said the talented youth have got inspiring placements on their merit.

“The entrepreneurship development holds key to boost productivity besides generating avenues for skilled and unskilled work force. Youth always remained focus during NC government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Higher education institutions and youth are the vanguards of change towards the holistic development,” he added.

Speaking about the development process started all over the state during Omar government, he said, “Sonawari constituency benefited a lot in the last six years as two new colleges were opened in the area. Besides dozens of schools were upgraded, new roads constructed and people benefited immensely due to this,” Lone added
