SRINAGAR: An unidentified body was recovered from the Jhelum River near Kawani in the Awantipora area of south Kashmir on Monday, officials said.
According to reports, local residents noticed the body floating in the river and promptly alerted the police.
A police team reached the spot and retrieved the body from the river. Officials said the deceased is suspected to be a non-local, although his identity has not yet been established.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death.
