SRINAGAR: Unidentified drones have been detected flying over a military installation in Washington where senior officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, reside, The Washington Post reported on Thursday.
Officials have not yet determined the origin of the drones, two sources told The Washington Post, highlighting potential vulnerabilities in the capital’s security apparatus.
According to a senior administration official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive security matters, the military has intensified monitoring of potential threats amid a heightened alert level as the United States and Israel continue strikes on Iran.
Multiple drones were spotted over Fort McNair on a single night within the past 10 days, the official said, prompting increased security measures and a meeting at the White House to assess the situation and formulate a response.
The sightings come at a time when the United States has issued a global security alert for its overseas diplomatic missions and imposed lockdowns at several domestic bases following threat perceptions.
