SRINAGAR: Unidentified persons allegedly set ablaze three stacks of paddy straw belonging to local farmers at Brath fields near Saidpora Bypass in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday, causing losses to the farmers.
The fire destroyed the straw, which was spread over around three kanals of land. The extent of the financial loss was not immediately ascertained.
Police from Sopore reached the spot following the incident and initiated an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire and identify those responsible.
The incident has caused concern among local farmers, who said similar incidents involving the burning of paddy straw had occurred in the area in the past.
