Senior BJP leader and union minister for transport and highway, Nitin Gadkari, Sunday said the union government will try to fulfil the dreams of late chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

Gadkari had visited the Fairview residence at Gupkar to convey condolences to Member Parliament and PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti, on the demise of her father, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, state’s former Chief Minister.

Gadkari who remained tight-lipped about the government formation said: “The entire country stand in solidarity with the bereaved family in sharing grief on the demise of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.”

Terming Mufti’s demise a great loss to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the minister said the union will try to fulfil the dream of the late chief minister of the state.

Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, also visited the Fairview to personally convey condolences to MP Mehbooba Mufti.

She was accompanied by the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha and former Chief Minister of the state, Ghulam Nabi Azad, senior Congress leader, Ambika Soni, President, Pradesh Congress Committee, G. A. Mir and former PCC President, Saif-ud-Din Soz.

Paying rich tributes, Sonia said the death of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was a huge loss for the country. She also met the other family members, including Begum Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, and expressed solidarity in their hour of grief.

Sonia had also visited All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, where Mufti Sayeed was undergoing treatment after he had complained of exhaustion during his hectic tour of Srinagar on December 22 last month.

Following his death on January 7, the Congress President had hailed him as a humanist, whose contribution in various capacities in public life would be remembered forever.
