Two persons including a bank guard on Friday suffered injuries after unknown gunmen stormed inside JK Bank branch Mohanpora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

An official said that the unknown gunmen barged inside the branch with an intention of looting bank.

He said that somebody closed the shutter from outside which prompted the gunmen to fire shots.

However, they did not succeed in taking the cash.

“Reportedly locals chased them to some distance and tried to capture the gunmen who fired at civilians injuring a bank guard and another civilian namely Ashiq Ahmad Itoo,” he added.

They were shifted to nearby hospital for specialised treatment, he said.

Meanwhile, a police spokesperson said:“People foil bank looting attempt by militants in Mohanpora Kulgam, force them to flee from the spot. One civilian two security guards injured in the militant firing.”
