Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) in a communique has taken a very serious note of rude and abnormal behaviour of Station House Officer(SHO) Mattan along with his team.

Dr Suhail Naik, President DAK said, ” Station House Officer(SHO), Mattan along with his team barged into emergency department of Primary Health Centre(PHC), Mattan on Friday evening. The doctor on duty asked the accompanying police official calmly to keep the weapon outside as in hospital it creates a fear psychosis among the other patients. On hearing this the SHO thrashed and abused on-duty doctor without any provocation. The matter did not end there as the doctor was dragged by his collar to the police vehicle stationed in the campus of the hospital outside”.

Dr Adil Wanil, District President  Anantnag DAK added that “It is forlorn that the police meant for our protection is, unfortunately, harassing a Government official on duty. The police which acts against the antisocial elements by giving protection to law-abiding citizens is acting vice versa which in turn creates an unnecessary fear psychosis. Such officers are not only a threat to society in general but they bring disgrace to the police department in particular”.

“It has now become a routine that the on-duty doctors are abused by men in uniform and unfortunately the Govt. seems to be in hibernation. Taking this unfortunate incident very seriously DAK being pushed to the wall is being forced to issue a 2-hour strike call on Saturday in all the hospitals of District Anantnag including DH Anantnag”Dr Wani further added.

Furthermore, DAK stresses upon the Inspector General of Police to take stringent departmental action against the concerned police official as per law so that in future such incidents are not repeated otherwise we will have no other option but to go for a valley-wide strike from Monday.
