The government on Wednesday revealed a lot of information about the functioning of the Housing and Urban Development Department in Kashmir. Details suggest that lot of funds are available but only part of it is being spent.
For providing basic services to the urban poor, the government disclosed in the state legislative council, the funds available at the end of three years is Rs 40.68 crore and the expenditure for all the three years is cumulatively Rs 4.77 crore.
Even the funds allocated under state plan, the expenditure does not offer any rosy picture. The details revealed that against the total fund availability of Rs 207.13 crore at the end of 2011-12, the expenditure in last three years was only Rs 133.12 crore.
Conservation of the Dal lake is also exhibiting glut of funds as the expenditure is gradual and slow paced. Against availability of Rs 94.93 crore, the actual expenditure in last three financial years at the end of March 2012 was Rs 75.55 crore.
