SRINAGAR: In a significant diplomatic engagement, the US Minister Counselor for Political Affairs, Mr. Graham D Mayer, First Secretary Political Affairs, Gary B Applegarth, and Political Specialist, Abhiram Ghadyalpatil, convened a meeting with the Mayor of Srinagar, Junaid Azim Mattu, at his official residence.
The US delegation engaged in a comprehensive discussion with Mattu, covering a range of pressing topics concerning Srinagar’s infrastructural development and urban rejuvenation.
Mattu provided insights into the impressive growth of the tourism sector in Srinagar in recent years, attributing this expansion to a substantial influx of tourists. He emphasised that this influx had a profoundly positive impact on the local economy, underlining the need for continued support and collaboration.
Additionally, the meeting witnessed in-depth conversations about investment opportunities across various sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, industry, and tourism.
In a bid to promote community interactions, knowledge sharing, and cultural understanding, Mayor Mattu explored the potential for future student exchange programs between educational institutions in the US and Srinagar. He underscored the value of such programs, not only in fostering cultural ties but also in boosting employment opportunities and job growth.
Mattu also highlighted the sustained atmosphere of peace and good governance in the Jammu and Kashmir region over recent years. He urged the delegation to extend their support in efforts to mitigate adverse travel advisories issued by certain countries concerning Jammu and Kashmir.
