SRINAGAR: The US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs has introduced the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Programme (FTEA), named after Senator J. William Fulbright. This initiative is set to welcome around 180 secondary school teachers from 62 countries, including up to seven educators from India. The application deadline for the FTEA Program is March 08, 2024.

The FTEA programme spans six weeks and is a non-degree academic venture hosted at US Universities. It is designed to offer teachers an immersive experience in new teaching methodologies, student-centred learning, content-based instruction, and instructional technology. The programme is scheduled for either January 2025 or September 2025, contingent on community conditions.

Participants will partake in a practicum of at least 40 hours with a US partner teacher, gaining firsthand experience in the American classroom environment. The programme emphasizes safety and security, with contingency plans addressing potential challenges, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Applicants must be full-time school teachers in India, serving grades 6th to 12th, with a minimum of five years of teaching experience. Prerequisites include a bachelor’s degree, Indian citizenship and residency, and a commitment to continue teaching post-programme. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in English, with TOEFL scores required for short-listed applicants.

Selection is merit-based, considering demonstrated commitment to teaching, leadership potential, and the ability to collaborate internationally. An interview panel will evaluate top candidates.

The FTEA Programme actively supports classroom diversity and encourages teachers with disabilities to apply. However, former participants in specified programmes and certain professionals, such as Ministry of Education officials and full-time principals, are ineligible.

The screening of applications will commence in early April 2024, with interviews and TOEFL testing scheduled for the same period. Finalists will be notified in September 2024.
