The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Sunday welcomed the decision of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to hold assembly elections on time in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement here the BJP spokesman Khaild Jehangir said, “People wanted the polls to be held on time and ECI has taken the aspirations of the masses into account and acted swiftly.”

Taking a dig at the ruling National Conference Jehangir said, “The NC leaders were opposing the elections as they were worried about themselves. They have to vacate the official accommodation and have to give up all the luxuries which they were enjoying all these years. They were not worried about what would happen to people they were more concerned about what would happen to them.”

Jehangir demanded that NC and Congress leaders should vacate the official accommodation forthwith so that the people whose houses have been destroyed during the recent floods are accommodated and are not left on Almighty’s mercy during the harsh winter season.

The BJP spokesman said, “NC leaders wanted to enjoy the power till last day that is why they were opposing the elections. Now the poll bugle has been sounded and they have to face the people whom they ignored for the past six years.”

Jehangir hoped that poll announcement won’t interfere with the rehabilitation process of the flood victims and officials would ensure that the victims get all the possible help.
