SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed grief over the stampede incident at Vaishno Devi shrine in which 12 people have died and several others were injured. He also offered condolences to the families of the deceased.
Taking to social networking site Twitter, PM Modi wrote, “Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to a stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Spoke to JK LG Shri @manojsinha_ Ji, Ministers Shri @DrJitendraSingh Ji, @nityanandraibjp Ji and took stock of the situation.”

The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the families of those who have been killed in the incident. The families of those injured will received Rs 50,000, PM Modi said.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s office announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the next of kin of those killed in the stampede.
