For the first time in the history of the state, a Kashmiri cricketer will be part of Indian Cricket (A) team in an upcoming match against the English Cricket team on January 6.

Parveez Rasool of Bijbehra, Islamabad has been included in the 14 member squad to play against the England in warm up match.

Sources told KNS that the 24 year old all rounder was selected in the squad on the back of outstanding performance in Ranji Trophy matches lately.

Rasool played his career’s fist class match against Himachal Pradesh in November 2008. The all rounder scored 594 runs which includes two centuries apart from bagging 33 wickets during Ranji Trophy last year.

Rasool who is of 23 years and 325 days old, has played 33 innings in first class matches and scored 1003 runs scoring at an average of 38.57. He has scored 3 centuries and 2 half centuries during his career having 117 runs as his highest score in Ranji Trophy.

Parvez has taken 46 wickets in 26 first class innings and has taken 5 or more than 5 wickets thrice. His best record in bowling is 7 wickets for 47 runs.

Pertinently, Right arm batsman and fast medium bowler bowler, Rasool had guided his team to thumping 235 win over Assam in the four day Ranji Trophy Group-C encounter at Nehru Stadium Guwahati in 2012.

After a number of brilliant performances with his bat and ball for the JK team in various matches, he had scored 187 runs in the match including quick unbeaten 120 of 106 deliveries in second innings of the match. He had also taken nine wickets including career best figure seven wickets in first innings.

As far as this Ranji season goes, Parvez has emerged as new star of JK cricket with his consistent performance in the three matches he played. In the second match of the tournament he played a marathon knock of 177 runs to salvage respectable draw for JK team against Goa.

Ironically, the all rounder was once detained by Police for questioning at China Swami Stadium Banglore last year.
