To thwart the Eid chalo march, call given by Hurriyat Conference (G), authorities on Friday imposed strict curfew in Valley.

According to residents of old city, Police vehicles fitted with public address systems announced the imposition of curfew late last night and asked people not to venture out of their homes. Also announcements were made from local masjid’s loudspeakers asking people not to violate the curfew.

“The re-imposition of restrictions is done as a precautionary measure,” a police spokesman said.

All roads leading to Eidgah in old city were sealed off by huge deployment of police and paramilitary forces.

“Our main aim is to prevent the situation from worsening and maintenance of peace. Safety of life and property is our main concern and for that necessary measures will be taken”, said Minister of State for Home, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo.
