Hurriyat Conference (M) lashed out at the Indian media and mainstream political parties ‘for deliberately engaging in a political onslaught to distract attention from the ground situation in Kashmir resulting from Afzal Guru’s hanging’.

The Hurriyat spokesperson in a press statement issued from Srinagar said that Afzal Guru’s hanging has angered and anguished Kashmiris.,He added that diversionary tactics will not hide the fact that the sentiments of Kashmiris have yet again been treated with utter contempt and disregard.

The Hurriyat (M) spokesperson stated that Kashmir was a raging conflict that has real dimensions that affect the lives and rights of the Kashmiri people. “Why is the Indian media so brazenly selective in its moral outrage? There is an absolute lack of expressed concern for the state of collective siege in Kashmir by both the Indian Media and mainstream political parties”, he added.

The Hurriyat (M) spokesperson termed the media campaign on Yasin Malik as a blatant “media trial” and a ploy to shift attention from the political repercussions of Afzal Guru’s hanging.

“Indian Media’s tendency to conduct “media-trials” when it comes to issues concerning Kashmir has proven to further alienate and isolate Kashmiris. Afzal Guru was also made to undergo a “media trial” and was portrayed as a culprit independent of what the judicial system treated the case as”, the spokesman said.

He said the Hurriyat (M) strongly condemns the “media trial” being orchestrated against Yasin Malik and other pro-freedom leaders without any regard to the veracity of their claims.

The Hurriyat (M) spokesperson accused both NC and PDP of surrendering the sentiments of their people for the lure and lust of power. “National Conference is a partner of the UPA and is complicit in the political decision to hang Afzal Guru.

PDP on the other hand is using shameless rhetoric and double-speak without realizing that it too has its hands soaked with the blood of innocent Kashmiris. Both traditional pro-Indian parties are the biggest enemies of Kashmiris and will stoop to any level to attain power. Both parties are bereft of any ideological compulsions and are solely driven by the mirage of manipulative power”, he said adding “neither Neither NC nor PDP has the moral turpitude to speak for the aspirations and sentiments of the Kashmiri people. The history of both parties is full of u-turns and sell-outs at every crucial juncture”.

The Hurriyat (M) spokesperson asked for Afzal Guru’s body to be handed over to his family without any further delay so that his family can bury him with full religious rites in Kashmir.
