A controversial Village Defence Committee (VDC) member Thursday killed a mother-son duo in J&K’s Rajouri district.
The accused identified as Mushtaq Ahmad, son of Mohd Sharief of Rajouri’s Mohra Dhaveen village barged inside the home of the 35-year-old woman, Shamim Akhter and shot her dead along with her four-year-old son Tawheed Ahmad. The incident happened at Samote village.
The injured were shifted to nearby hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
Police said the killer VDC member has been arrested and booked under a criminal case.
Meanwhile, the latest VDC killing triggered massive protests in the area with locals demanding disbanding of VDC.
Today’s incident comes three days after a NC youth leader, Ishtyaq Ahmed Choudhary was shot dead by VDC member Kewal Kumar Sharma in Potha village of Rajouri’s Kalakote area.
After the recent killing, the demand to disband the VDC has gained momentum in the state. However, the state government has made it clear that they don’t have any plans to disband the government militia.
