SRINAGAR: A 16-year-old boy was killed in an accidental shooting at his home in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday night, officials told Daily Excelsior.
The incident occurred when Pyare Lal, a village defence guard (VDG), was cleaning his rifle at their residence in Loyee Dhar village of Mughal Maidan around 9:30 pm. The firearm discharged accidentally, fatally striking his son, Anuj Kumar, on the spot.
Daily Excelsior reported that a police team rushed to the scene and transferred Kumar, a class 10 student, to Chatroo hospital for post-mortem. Inquest proceedings are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the firing. The weapon has been seized for forensic examination, and statements from family members are being recorded, police added.
