SRINAGAR: Just a few kilometres away from Bijbihara is a village located, known as Malpora, Phuhar. The village is located on the Dacchnipora belt of Anantnag’s district and is home to Ghulam Nabi Wani, an octogenarian who despite his old age and weak demeanour, possesses a strong will and runs an old shop, all on his own.

Ghulam Nabi Wani, a father of four daughters started running the shop almost four decades ago when his brother who previously ran the shop, passed away.

“The times have evolved since that day and I took over this shop,” he stated, “Sometimes I even shut down this shop because of various health issues.”

Ghulam Nabi Wani acquired his education till fifth grade and since then has been trying to make a living by doing various jobs, “When my wife passed away, this shop remained shut for a long time.”

As he held onto his kangri more firmly, Ghulam Nabi talked about various facets of life and his own experiences with them, “Unemployment is the main issue right now and even uneducated people are unemployed,” the old man said.

  1. Kashmir has a very beautiful culture and tradition and specially in winters.
    They consume dry fruits and vegetables which they grow in summers.
    They use kangaries as their heating system which is a fire pot which is fired with coals.
    People of Kashmir known as Kashmiris are very talented but they were never came out with such a talent but now they all are getting the opportunities as a part of India
    As this year many of people joined the culture of paper mache and celebrated it on cristmas . This year chillai kalaan seoson of winters which starts from 21 December was celebrated greatly with many participants of kashmir.
