Vigilance Organization Kashmir (VOK) Tuesday said that it has registered a case under Prevention of Corruption Act on outcome of a verification conducted by Vigilance Organization Kashmir into the allegations that during the years 2006 and 2007 Electric Division Ganderbal procured different electric material from the open market on higher rates than the rates of similar materials which were available in departmental electric store Pampore.

As reported by local news agency PTK, the VOK officials said that during verification conducted by VOK, it was revealed that the then Executive Engineers, Electric Division Ganderbal and others during the year 2006 and 2007 hatched a criminal conspiracy with suppliers and in order to obtain the pecuniary benefit in pursuance to the said conspiracy procured different electric materials from various firms without any tendering process which included PVC Cables, GI Wire, Guy Insulators and Solder less Clamps, thus provided undue pecuniary advantage to these blue eyed suppliers.

“During the verification conducted it has revealed that similar items of different brands/make procured at lower rates were sufficiently available in electrical central Store Division Pampore during the period and these have been found technically fit for such use during the relevant period,” the statement reads.

“However, in order to confer illegal pecuniary advantage upon the beneficiary suppliers and themselves these public servants purchased the electrical items from the open market without floating tenders and in blatant violation of norms and rules,” the statement added.

The VOK officials said that by acting in this manner, the officers/officials Electric Division Ganderbal have abused their official position and have illegally conferred undue pecuniary advantage upon themselves and to the blue eyed beneficiary suppliers thereby causing corresponding loss to the state exchequer.

“Accordingly Case FIR No. 23/2016 under section 5(1)(d) r/w 5(2) J&K P.C. Act, Svt. 2006 and 120-B RPC in Police Station Vigilance Organisation Kashmir was registered against the Officers/Officials of Electric Division Ganderbal and others to further investigate the matter,” officials said.
