SRINAGAR

On the last day of campaigning for the third phase of polls, Sangrama assembly segment witnessed the largest political rally of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district with Member Parliament (MP) and opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader, Muzaffar Hussain Baig campaigning for the PDP candidate Syed Basharat Bukhari.

The rally comprising of 652 vehicles started from Bukhari’s home town Kreeri and passed through Hygam, Bulgam, Tarzoo, Kranshiuvan, Shoora, Athoora, Saloosa, Mangam, Kalantara, Shirpora, Nowgam, Sheikhpora, Kakalthal, Kawchak, Doolipora and finally concluded back at Kreeri.

Addressing a gathering of people at Kreeri, Baig said of all the 21 MLAs of PDP, Bukhari was the best in terms of carrying development activities in his constituency. He said Bukhari would be re-elected and not only be the new MLA of Sangrama but also end up being a minister in the new government.

Baig urged the people not to vote for his brother, Fazl Baig, who is contesting as an independent candidate from Sangrama constituency against Bukhari.

He said though Fazl Baig was his brother but he did not have the party’s mandate while Bukhari had.

“As an MLA, Basharat carried a large number of developmental works while being in the opposition and in the government he would do even better,” Baig said.

Speaking on the occasion, Bukhari asked the people to keep faith in him and promised them he would continue with the good work he had been doing in future too.

He attacked the National Conference-Congress coalition government accusing them of sending Muhammad Afzal Guru to the gallows.

“While Congress was responsible for sending Guru to the gallows, NC was not able to save him or even get back his body so that his family could perform his last rites, which is one of the basic rights,” Bukhari said.
