SRINAGAR: The Election Commission of India has begun the process of Special Summary Revision (SSR) for the Budgam and Nagrota Assembly Constituencies (ACs) today, as part of the by-elections in these constituencies.
As per the SSR schedule, the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) for 77-Nagrota AC and 27-Budgam AC have notified the draft publication of the electoral rolls for the upcoming bye-elections. The draft electoral rolls are now available for public inspection at the offices of the concerned EROs, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Copies of the draft rolls have also been provided to recognised national and Union Territory political parties.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir has urged all eligible voters in these constituencies to review and update their details in the draft rolls to ensure their participation in the electoral process.
The electoral roll revision process has been scheduled with the qualifying date set as 1st April 2025. The period for filing claims and objections will be from 08-04-2025 (Tuesday) to 24-04-2025 (Thursday).
During this period, voters can file claims or objections regarding inclusion, omission, or correction in the rolls. As per rules, any person or political party functionary may also file objections concerning the names of electors listed.
Voters are encouraged to verify their details, and in case of discrepancies or omissions, they should contact their respective BLOs for necessary corrections or to complete their registration.
Additionally, voters may use the Voter Helpline App to submit Forms 6, 7, and 8 for registration, deletion of names, objections, and corrections in the electoral roll. This app offers a convenient method for completing the necessary procedures online.
BLOs will also conduct door-to-door surveys to support the enrolment process and assist voters. Voters can find the details of their respective BLOs on the official website of the CEO, Jammu and Kashmir, or by visiting their local polling stations.
The disposal of claims and objections will be completed by 02-05-2025, and the final publication of the electoral rolls will take place on 05-05-2025 (Monday).
To ensure that no voter is left out, the Relief Commissioner has also announced a separate schedule of camps to assist migrant voters from the Kashmir Division—particularly from Budgam AC—residing across India, in enrolling for the bye-elections. The schedule for these camps will be issued by the concerned AERO (Migrants).
Earlier, the rationalisation of polling stations was carried out for 27-Budgam AC and 77-Nagrota AC to maintain the upper limit of electors within 1,200 per station. Following this, 27-Budgam AC now has 173 polling stations, and 77-Nagrota AC has 150 polling stations.
For further assistance, inquiries, or updates, voters can visit their respective polling stations, contact BLOs, use the Voter Helpline App, or refer to the official website of the CEO, Jammu and Kashmir.
