Waheed Para Demands Clarity on Reservation Report, Warns of Threat to Kashmiri Representation

SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Waheed Para has sought clear answers from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on two key public issues concerning Jammu Kashmir, the regularisation of land and daily wagers, and the alleged rationalisation of the reservation matrix that, according to him, threatens Kashmiri representation.

In a post on X, Para said the youth of Jammu and Kashmir and the PDP were asking “two straightforward questions” and did not want “procedural puzzles” but “clear answers.”

He asked whether Chief Minister Omar Abdullah would categorically commit to supporting the PDP’s Land Regularisation Bill and Daily Wagers Regularisation Bill — initiatives that he described as vital for ensuring land and livelihood security for the people of Jammu Kashmir. Para said these measures were originally sought by former Chief Minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti to address long-pending grievances of locals.

Further, Para questioned the government’s silence on the reservation sub-cabinet committee report, urging that it be made public in the interest of transparency. Citing credible reports, he alleged that the so-called “rationalisation” exercise was a “new matrix designed to erode Kashmiri representation and disempower its people.”

The PDP has repeatedly urged the government to prioritise employment regularisation for thousands of daily wagers and restore confidence among those affected by recent administrative and demographic shifts.
