Srinagar

The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry Friday said that the administration was caught sleeping after snow blocked roads and by-lanes in capital Srinagar.

It urged the government to wake up and ensure sufficient manpower is deployed to clear the roads immediately.

In a statement, the President, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mushtaq Ahmad Wani said that the snowfall has ended the long dry spell but it has caught the state administration sleeping to cause unexpected difficulties to the people.

“There is no proactive arrangement in place to meet such exigency. As a result, the roads remain under a thick cover of snow making movement of people difficult. Since morning snowfall is taking place continuously and the people have been passing through inexplicable hardships as the movement of transport on the roads covered with a thick layer of snow has become impossible,” he said.

Wani said that nobody from the administration seems taking care of the situation and no arrangement has been made to clear at least the main roads connecting parts of the city and suburbs.

“KCC&I feels obliged to urge the state administration [to] wake up and ensure that sufficient machine and manpower is immediately deployed to clear the roads and links of the city and suburbs for normal movement of people,” he said.
