Wanigam Gunfight: Slain Militants Identified

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday said that late evening said that the militants killed in Kreeri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district were affiliated with JeM outfit.

A police spokesman in a statement said, “On a specific input regarding presence of militants in Wanigam Payeen area of Baramulla, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Baramulla  Police, 29RR and 176Bn CRPF in the said area.”

The spokesman in a statement said during the search operation, as the presence of militants got ascertained who were hiding in the residential house of Mehraj-ud-din Wani, they were given the opportunity to surrender. However, they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter.

“In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. One of the killed militant has been identified as Abrar alias Langoo, who as per reliable sources is a Pakistani national and the other local killed militant has been identified as Amir Siraj resident of Sopore affiliated with proscribed outfit JeM,” said the spokesman.

He said that as per police records, both the killed militants were involved in several crime cases including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities.

“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other crimes,” he said.

“In this connection, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation has been initiated. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,” said police spokesman in a statement.
