Addressing the gathering, Abdullah said the protest was organised to remind the Union Government of its commitment to restore statehood to the Union Territory.

“Today, we are fighting for full statehood, which is a promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Home Minister, both in Parliament, before the Supreme Court, and to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Abdullah said.

He added that the National Conference’s protest was aimed at reminding the Centre of that commitment and demanding the restoration of full statehood.

“We are protesting here today simply to remind them of that commitment and to demand the restoration of complete statehood,” he said.

The protest, led by the National Conference, was attended by senior party leaders, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, as the party intensified its campaign for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
