SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said the people of the Union Territory had neither forgotten nor accepted the changes introduced seven years ago, reaffirming the National Conference’s commitment to reversing the constitutional decisions taken on August 5, 2019.
In a social media post ahead of the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, Abdullah said he and his party remained committed to restoring what he described as the rights and identity of Jammu and Kashmir.
“My party & I remain committed to reversing all that was done to J&K that took away our rights & threatens our identity,” the National Conference leader said.
“7 years, we haven’t forgotten & we haven’t reconciled far less accepted our current circumstances,” he added.
Abdullah also quoted American poet Robert Frost in the post, writing: “The woods are lovely, dark & deep. But I have promises to keep. And miles to go before I sleep……”
Meanwhile, the ruling National Conference also held a protest at its Central Office in Srinagar against the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and its subsequent bifurcation into two Union territories on August 5, 2019.
Senior party leaders, legislators and workers participated in the demonstration, raising slogans and displaying placards demanding the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional guarantees and statehood.
