SRINAGAR

National Conference (NC) spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu has said that the entire NC cadre across the length and breadth of the State, led by Ministers, Legislators and Senior Leaders was at the service of those in need on the directions of NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and NC Working President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

“NC Working President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is personally monitoring the situation, holding round-the-clock assessment meetings and personally supervising de-watering operations for those parts of the Valley that are still inundated. Calculated breaches have been made at certain places by the Government in addition to high-density de-watering pumps installed and the water levels have started to recede due to these efforts”, the NC Spokesman said.

According to a statement issued to KNS,  NC spokesman said that in addition to NC Working President’s personal, round-the-clock monitoring and supervision of the de-watering and relief measures taken by the State Government, NC Party President Dr. Farooq Abdullah is in constant touch with party leaders and is taking stock of relief work being carried out in various areas. The NC General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar and NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani are also personally supervising relief operations across the Valley on an hour-to-hour basis and helping the Administration to continue to coordinate systematic efforts of de-watering and aid-distribution.

“Every single leader, office-bearer and worker of NC continues to be at the disposal of our people in every nook and corner of the State in these testing times. We are committed to ensuring the dignified and timely rehabilitation of the flood-victims and the Honorable Chief Minister has repeatedly reiterated that the dispensation of adequate and timely compensation to flood victims is a top priority of the State Government. We welcome the steps being taken by the State Government in bringing the public machinery and infrastructure back on track despite mounting challenges. We laud the Chief Minister’s untiring efforts in personally monitoring speedy de-watering of inundated areas and in ensuring the restoration-work and clean-up drives of Srinagar’s Government Hospitals including SKIMS, SMHS, Lala Ded and Bone & Joints Hospital”, the NC Spokesman said.

The NC Spokesman said that due to the timely and effective efforts of the State Government fifty-eight mobile health clinics have been set up in Srinagar even as water has been drained out from the G B Pant Hospital, L D Hospital and SMHS Hospital while four mobile hospitals have been pressed into service. The Bone and Joint hospital has been functional for almost a week now and one block has been temporarily converted into a Gynae and obstetrics unit. In addition to this, the maternity hospital at Sanat Nagar is already working round the clock and serving hundreds of patients every day with round-the-clock operations.

“We also hail the efforts of the State Government in general and the Honorable Chief Minister in particular in ensuring the smooth resumption of Haj flights from Srinagar. Haj flights from Srinagar to Saudi Arabia have been resumed and the Chief Minister is monitoring the departures to ensure that the pilgrims are able to make the Holy Pilgrimage without any hurdles and inconvenience. We also laud the personal intervention of the Honorable Chief Minister in ensuring that mobile phones are not disconnected during this tragedy due to delayed payments. The State Government has also played a commendable role in restoring financial services, bank branches and ATMs in the last week and more”, the NC Spokesman said.

The NC Spokesman has also expressed appreciation on behalf of the party for the Chief Minister’s decision to procure the required vaccinations and medicines from the open-market, funds for which have been made available from the J&K Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. “We appeal to those with means, within and outside the State to donate generously to the J&K Chief Minister’s Relief Fund so that timely help continues to be extended where critically needed”, the NC Spokesman added.

Condemning attempts by certain quarters to put forth personal agendas and partisan politics at a time of such devastation and suffering, NC Spokesman has said that such tendencies are diametrically opposed to the absolutely commendable and unifying spirit of courage, empathy and service exhibited by thousands of people especially the youth in the last two weeks. “Our efforts have been above and beyond the realm of politics and completely independent from the very thought of elections and we will continue to do everything possible – individually and collectively as and where we can help our people. The NC Working President has directed every single member and worker of the party to act as an apolitical, selfless volunteer as and where possible to assist the victims in the aftermath of this calamity”, the NC Spokesman added.

Rebuffing rhetorical statements and negative, destructive posturing by certain political entities at a time like this, the NC Spokesman has said that the Party President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and the Working President Omar Abdullah have both appealed for a unified, comprehensive government-civilian effort to help in rebuilding the State and aiding in the rehabilitation of those who have been displaced. “One would hope that all other political parties would follow suit in this spirit of national re-building, reconstruction and rehabilitation but that would be expecting too much from those who look at every collective misery and suffering as an opportunity to issue self-aggrandizing and cynical press statements”, the NC Spokesman said.
