Weather forecaster Sonam Lotus told Kashmir Life that rainfall has mostly ceased across the region, although cloudy skies are expected to continue through the day.

He added that rain and thunderstorms may occur in several areas from the afternoon onwards, with a chance of hail in parts of central and south Kashmir. Referring to previous years, Lotus noted that 2023 and 2024 saw good rainfall due to strong Western Disturbances.

According to him, weather is expected to improve from April 5, with mainly dry conditions likely between April 5 and April 7 (evening). However, another Western Disturbance is predicted to impact the region between April 7 and 8.

Lotus said the overall situation remains stable, with no flood alerts issued as water levels are within safe limits. Still, residents, particularly in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging, have been advised to stay cautious.

He also explained that heavy rain and thunderstorms in March and May are common in Jammu and Kashmir, as this period marks the transition from winter to spring. Rising temperatures during this time cause atmospheric convection, leading to thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and strong winds.

Meanwhile,  authorities have issued advisories for farmers and the public, recommending that spraying activities be postponed until April 4. The period from April 5 to the forenoon of April 7, especially April 6, is considered suitable for spraying.

Besides, commuters have been advised to check road conditions before traveling and to follow weather and traffic updates, as conditions may change.
