SRINAGAR: After fresh snowfall in hilly areas and rain in plains during the last 24 hours, the weather in Jammu and Kashmir is likely to improve from Monday afternoon.

Officials of the meteorological (MeT) department said that moderate rain occurred in the plains and light snowfall in the hills of the Valley during the last 24 hours.

“Weather is likely to remain dry till December 7, however there is possibility of light rain/snow around December 8-9th at some places,” an official of the MET department said.

Pahalgam – the famous health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra was the coldest place in the Valley where the minimum temperature was 0.6 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature in Gulmarg, the famous skiing resort in north Kashmir  settled at a low of 2.6 degrees.

Srinagar, the summer capital of the state recorded a low of 2.6 degrees Celsius while Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of 1.9 degree Celsius.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of 1.0 degrees Celsius last night while Qazigund in south Kashmir recorded a low of 3.2 degree Celcius.

Jammu city recorded 10.8 degrees Celsius, Katra 9.2, Batote 3.2, Banihal recorded 1.4 and Bhaderwah recorded 2.0 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperatures.
