Srinagar

The fresh snowfall in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday threw life out of gear as the Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed for the traffic and the air traffic was also suspended but the weather office forecast overall improvement from Sunday afternoon.

“Light snowfall is likely to occur in the forenoon and after that overall weather will start improving. Weather is likely to remain dry during the next seven days in the state,” an Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

The minimum temperatures improved across Jammu and Kashmir because of the night-long cloud cover bringing in some respite from the severe cold wave.

Srinagar, the summer capital of the state recorded a low of minus 0.4 while the mercury in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 0.9 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature in Pahalgam settled at a low of minus 2.8 degrees while Gulmarg minus 9-degree Celsius.

Leh town recorded minus 6.5 degree Celsius and Drass had minus 9.7 as the minimum temperatures.

Jammu city had 7.3 degrees Celsius, Katra 4, Batote minus 2.5, Bannihal minus 1.2 and Bhaderwah 0.9 as the night’s lowest temperature.
