SRINAGAR: As a cold wave sweeps across Kashmir, Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir, experienced its coldest night of the season, with temperatures plummeting to minus 4.8 degrees Celsius

The sub-zero temperatures were widespread, affecting all stations, with Qazigund, the gateway of Kashmir, recording a low of minus 3.4 degrees Celsius.

Gulmarg, renowned for its ski resort, reported a temperature of minus 3.6 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination, registered a minimum of minus 4.7 degrees Celsius. In Kupwara, temperatures settled at minus 4.0 degrees Celsius, and in Kokernag, a minimum temperature of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius was observed.

Looking ahead, the Meteorological Department anticipates light rains and snowfall at isolated higher reaches starting tomorrow (Tuesday). The weatherman suggests the possibility of such precipitation in the elevated areas of Kashmir from December 12-15, although no significant weather activity is expected across Jammu & Kashmir during this period.
