The weatherman on Wednesday forecast widespread rain and snow for two days from today even as the mercury plummeted in Kashmir last night with Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, recording minus 0.3 degrees Celsius temperature.

Pahalgam, which serves as base camp for the annual Amarnath Yatra in south Kashmir, witnessed a minimum of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius.

A MeT official said Qazigund the gateway town to the valley – in south Kashmir recorded a minus 2.0 degrees Celsius while the nearby Kokernag town registered minus 3.4 degrees Celsius last night.

The ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded the minimum temperature of minus 7.5 degrees Celsius while Kupwara in north Kashmir was at minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, he said.
