SRINAGAR: A bear has unleashed terror in Babagail Limber Boniyar along the LoC, after killing eight cattle in two weeks.
Local residents said that on the midnight of Saturday and Sunday, a bear attacked the cowshed of Subhan Ahanger, killing two goats and injuring two cows.
Similarly, on March 28, the bear attacked the cowshed of Abdul Majeed Beig and killed two cows. They also said that last Wednesday, the bear attacked the cowshed of Shair Wali Bakerwal and killed his four sheep.
Locals said the bear has unleashed terror in the village of Babagail by attacking cowsheds during night hours. They also said many domestic animals have been killed and cowsheds destroyed earlier too in bear attacks.
The locals said that several times they informed the Wildlife Department, but nothing has been done so far.
Range Officer, Wildlife Department Baramulla, Manzoor Ahmad, said that village Babagail is a wildlife sanctuary area so they cannot catch the bear. However, he said they are using firecrackers so that the bear runs away towards the forest area. The officer appealed to villagers to take precautionary measures so that their livestock isn’t damaged.
“Villagers should arrange lighting around their houses so that wild animals don’t come close to the residential area,” he added. (GNS)
