Sonum Lotus, who assumed the role of Director of MeT Srinagar in 2008, was recently relocated to the Leh Meteorological Centre.

Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of MeT, expressed his commitment to delivering superior weather services to the public in an interview with the news agency KNO. He added that they must also evolve with time. Various individuals have served as Directors of the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar, but the way Sonum Lotus pioneered innovative methods for keeping the public informed is commendable.

“Sonum Sir introduced several advancements in forecasting, the use of social media, and other methods to keep the public informed about weather conditions,” he said. He further noted that they will continue to provide such services to keep people informed about favorable or adverse conditions for travel, crop harvesting, and other activities.

“We are expanding the network of automatic weather stations, with four more stations on the horizon, and we are also making automatic snow gadgets available at hilly stations. In addition, we are implementing other measures to further improve the infrastructure and enhance weather services for the public,” he stated. (KNO)
