SRINAGAR

Not succumbing before militants threats, Shafiq Mir chairman All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC)  an apex body of the Panchayat members of the state has categorically refused to resign “Whatever the consequences will be.”

Describing the latest threat of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) to the Panchayat members of the state a cowardice act, Mir said such acts and activities of militants will never  weaken their resolve and stand for democracy  and such acts will expose them before world that how they were carrying attacks on unarmed people.

“I appeal to all the panchayat members of the state not to succumb before any pressure and not to resign under any threat.” However, in the same breath Mir accused both the state and central governments for not making any arrangement for the security of Panchayat members of the state.

“If any attack is carried on any panchayat member of the state the government of Jammu and Kashmir will be responsible” Mir said in statement adding “We have already lost our six Panchayat mebers and dozens got injured in various such attacks but government has not taken any step to save the Panchayat members of the state.”

Pertinently, Lashker-e-Toiba through posters pasted on various public places in Srinagar on Thursday had asking the Panchayat members “to resign immediately or face the attacks.”
