In the wake of swine flu scare which has claimed four lives in Kashmir division, the government is likely to extend winter vacation in all government and private schools till March 2. Earlier the government had ordered the winter vacation till February 23.

A top government official told KNS that authorities are likely to extend the winter vacation for one week. “We have written to the Chief Secretary about the possible extension of winter vacations for one week. The same will be forwarded to the Governor NN Vohar for his approval. But I can tell you that the government is likely to extend and announce the vacation till March 2,” he said.

Earlier on November 14 last year Government had ordered closure of all government and private schools of Kashmir division and winter zone of Jammu division till Feb 23.

It is pertinent to mention here that swine flu has created panic among parents who are wary about sending their children to schools that are due to open on February 23. Many of them have also appealed the government to extend the winter vacations.

The bad weather conditions have also put the government in tight spot as people demand that winter break should be extended till March 15. The cold wave has persisted throughout this week and the maximum temperature too has dropped from last couple of days.
