SRINAGAR: Police arrested three alleged drug peddlers, including a woman, in two separate operations in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday and recovered 190.5 grams of heroin-like substance, officials said.
During the first operation, police apprehended a woman while conducting naka checking at Upper Market Qazigund near Town Hall after finding her movements suspicious. A search of her bag resulted in the recovery of 20.5 grams of heroin-like substance concealed in a black polythene envelope, police said.
The woman was identified as Aqsa Bashir, a resident of Hardpora Akinpora in Anantnag.
Police subsequently registered FIR No. 221/2026 under Sections 8 and 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at Police Station Qazigund and initiated an investigation.
In the second operation, police personnel from Police Post Navyug Tunnel set up a naka near the tunnel’s North Portal and intercepted a silver-coloured Swift Dzire bearing registration number JK09E-9019.
According to police, 170 grams of heroin was recovered from the vehicle’s two occupants, identified as Imran Mir, son of Mohd Akram Mir, and Muhbat Dar, son of Maqsood Ahmed Dar. Both are residents of Karnah in Kupwara.
The two men were arrested and FIR No. 222/2026 under Sections 8, 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Qazigund. Police said the investigation would focus on tracing the source of the alleged contraband and identifying other persons linked to the case.
SSP Kulgam said police would continue its campaign against drug trafficking and take legal action against those involved. He also urged the public to share information about drug trafficking with police, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
