Woman Booked for Allegedly Using VPN in Jammu Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: A woman has been booked in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district for allegedly violating official orders banning the use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) services on mobile phones for security reasons, police said on Saturday, as reported by Daily Excelsior.

According to the report, Meena Sharma, wife of Mohan Lal and a resident of Palnoo village in the Majalta area, has been booked at Majalta police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

A police spokesperson told Daily Excelsior that the action was taken for alleged violation of an order issued by the district magistrate on January 3, which prohibited the use of VPN services within the district.

The spokesperson said Sharma’s mobile phone number was found to be using VPN services during verification.

Further investigation is underway, police said, while urging the public to refrain from using VPN services and other prohibited mobile applications.
