Tasleema Akhtar, 28, a resident of Yechgam village in district Budgam was allegedly burnt by her husband Ghulam Mohiuddin Rather, a mason by profession on 27th of January.

Tasleema, a mother of two (aged 4 years and 18 months) is battling for her life at SMHS hospital Srinagar. The family and the neighbours came to Srinagar to protest against the violence.

The victim’s family blamed that the incident took place on the intervening night of 27th January, at 3 am.

According to reports, an FIR has been lodged in this connection in police station Budgam under (FIR no.18/1913 under section 307, 498 ARTC) and the culprit, Ghulam Mohiuddin has already been arrested by the police.

According to the family members, the victim is in critical condition since morning. The family blames victim’s sister -in-law, mother-in-law and her husband for the heinous crime. The victim’s cousin Imtiyaz Hussain says that Tasleema was never happy during her eight years of marriage. Yet on the pretext of her financial conditions she preferred to stay at her in laws’ house.
