A woman was killed after a bus carrying Amarnath pilgrims turned turtle on Srinagar-Leh highway in Rezan area of Ganderbal on Friday, police said.

Reports said that a bus, bearing registration number JK02 AW-3186, hit a woman and her daughter before turning turtle on the highway.

He said the woman, identified as Zaitoon Begum, wife of Abdul Qayoom, resident of Rezan, died on the spot. Her daughter Ulfat Jan was injured in the accident.

The official said that two pilgrims were also injured in the mishap.

They were identified as Mahesh Saba and Suraj. Both are residents of Maharashtra.

The injured, he said, were shifted to PHC Kullan where from Ulfat Jan was referred to Dub-district hospital Kangan.

Later, Jan was referred to SKIMS Soura in critical condition.
