The deceased was identified as Sarwara Begum, wife of Mukhtar Ahmad and a resident of Dana Gagdyan. She was reportedly swept away by the stream on Monday.

Her body was recovered on Tuesday morning from the Chambar Dati Galla river, around seven kilometres from Gagdyan, following a search operation involving police personnel and local residents.

Police, assisted by local residents, subsequently launched a search operation, during which her body was traced in the river, the officer said.

Following recovery, the body was taken to Sub-District Hospital, Mandi, where medico-legal formalities were completed before it was handed over to the family for the last rites.

Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation into the incident.
