SRINAGAR: A woman was killed after being hit by a bullet allegedly fired accidentally from the weapon of a Village Defence Guard (VDG) member in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district late Friday night.
A senior police officer said that the incident took place in Singpura Areagam village, located in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district. The deceased has been identified as Pushpa Devi (35), wife of Rakesh Kumar, a local resident.
Initial reports suggest the firing was accidental. The woman died on the spot from her injuries, the officer said.
Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the firing. (JKNS)
